Wanted: Pee Wee Reese

Dodgers go thru 3rd shortstop, beat Phils, 7-3

LOS ANGELES, Apr 14(AP)-The Dodgers may want to call Pee Wee Reese out of retirement. The Dodgers went through their 3rd shortstop in as many games when Daryl Spencer exited with a minor bruise to his left knee in the 5th inning of last night's 7-3 victory over the Phillies. Bob Aspromonte took over in the 6th and is slated to be the 3rd starting shortstop in 4 games when they entertain the Pirates on Friday night at the Coliseum. Maury Wills remains out for 6 games with a injury sustained in Wednesday night's game.

The Dodgers got home runs from Charlie Neal with 1 on in the 2nd, a solo shot from Tommy Davis in the 3rd and a three-run shot from Ron Fairly to put the game out of reach in the 5th. Roger Craig pitched 7 strong innings to get the win and needed relief help from Ron Perranoski and Larry Sherry to close out the series-clinching win.

Game notes:
-Tony Taylor left the game with a sprained wrist for the Phils, he'll miss at least the next game.
-The Phils also got home runs from Pancho Herrera and Clay Dalrymple.
-Art Mahaffey took the loss for the Phillies.

5 Outs Away...

Drysdale fires 1-hitter at Giants Bailey breaks up no-hit bid in 8th Baseball in 1961 Staff LOS ANGELES-5 outs away. That's how Don Drysdale came close to baseball immortality at the Coliseum tonight, losing a no-hit bid on a double by Ed Bailey with one out in the 8th. Drysdale would finish with a one-hitter, striking out 8 as the Dodgers finished a two-game series sweep of the Giants, 2-0. The Dodgers supplemented Drysdale's gem with a Charlie Neal solo homer in the 3rd off Jack Sanford and a sacrifice fly by Norm Larker in the 6th off Jim Duffalo. This was the second 1-hit effort in the early season, the other came on opening day when Dick Donovan of the Senators carried a no-hitter into the 8th against the White Sox.
