S-O-M inspired news story #1

Since we are dealing with a Strat-O-Matic-inspired recreation of a epic baseball season, I will from time to time print some stories of recreations built solely of C&D(Cards and Dice). This one was from what would've been a 4/12/1961 White Sox-Senators game(they were actually rained out), with some backstory and then some. Here's the story...

Sox bounce back from near-no-no, but lose 2 key players

WASHINGTON-(AP) The Sox wanted to prove they had some punch after Monday's near-no-hit bid. They did, but at the expense of 2 key veteran players. The Sox scored 2 runs in the 3rd, made them hold up behind the pitching of Billy Pierce and Turk Lown in blanking the Senators, 2-0. Then after the game announced that star players Al Smith and Sherm Lollar would both be gone for extended periods because of late-game injuries. Smith exited in the 8th with a sprained wrist, while Lollar pulled a shoulder muscle lining out in the 9th. Smith will be out 5 games, while Lollar will miss the maximum 15 games depriving the Sox of one of the finest defensive catchers and clutch players, as it was his single in the 8th on Monday that broke up Dick Donovan's no-hit bid.

Walks do in Senators
After Luis Aparicio led off the 3rd with a single and steal of 2nd, Senator starter Bennie Daniels promptly walked Nellie Fox and Minnie Minoso to load the bases. Daniels then proceeded to walk Roy Sievers for the 1st Sox run and then induced Al Smith to ground into a double play, scoring Fox with the 2nd run. Pierce then proceeded to shut down Washington's bats on 4 hits, escaping a huge threat in the 7th, when Daniels singled with 1 out and after a fly to center by Chuck Cottier, Chuck Hinton doubled, sending Daniels to 3rd. Pierce then struck out Bob Johnson to end the threat. Washington got a 1-out single from Coot Veal in the 9th, but pinch-hitter Dale Long grounded into a game-ending double play to secure the win for Pierce and convert a much-needed save for Turk Lown, who allowed Donovan's 8th-inning home run in Monday's thriller.
