Temple of doom...

Thanks to the "Red Bank Register(NJ)," I was able to get a WPIX program listing and a ad for a soft drink that "refreshes in a Wink." Thus, here are highlights from a 4/27/61 Indians-Yankees thriller:
WPIX: "It's the new grapefruit soft drink that refreshes in a "Wink." Pick up this great new thirst-quencher from Canada Dry today!"
"It's bold, it's sensational and "You Asked For It!" Don't miss another fascinating edition, tonight at 7:30 on Channel 11"
"The Daily News Station, WPIX-TV, Channel 11, New York."
                                                          Game Summary
Cleveland jumped off to a 3-0 lead on a first inning sac fly to right by Jimmy Piersall and a pair of RBI singles in the second by Johnny Temple and Tito Francona. The Yanks got a leadoff 2nd inning error on a fumbled dribbler to the plate by Roger Maris, who took third on a Moose Skowron double. Kubek popped to Romano, sending up Clete Boyer...
MEL ALLEN: "2-2 count on Boyer, the pitch from Perry is swung on and hit deep to left, Francona goes back, it's going, going, it is GONE!" Clete Boyer's 2nd home run of the year ties the score at 3. Now that's a Ballantine Blast! How About That!"
Yankees would score 2 more off Perry in the 3rd on a double play with the bases loaded by Skowron and a single by Kubek. It would stay that way until the 7th.
                                                     Top of the 7th
After Whitey Ford struck out Francona, Piersall and Willie Kirkland singled back-to-back, putting runners at the corners and Woodie Held at the plate:
RED BARBER: "Ford with the wind, the pitch to Held is swung to right, Piersall tags up, Maris with the catch, Piersall scores, it is now 5 to 4, Yanks."
                                                 Bottom of the 7th
After a lead-off fly to center by Richardson, here's Johnny Blanchard...
BARBER: "Perry fires, the pitch to Blanchard, swung and to right, he hit it pretty good, Kirkland looks up, she is gone! Blanchard extends the Yankee lead to 6 to 4 on the solo shot to right, another Ballantine Blast, which should be followed up by one of your own!"
                                                    Top of the 8th
After Bubba Phillips led off with a grounder to 2nd, Honey Romano drew a walk, which sent up pinch-hitter Bob Niemann, who then singled. Whitey Ford then gave way for Luis Arroyo, who gave up a single by Temple, loading the bases. Chuck Essegian pinch-hitting for Francona...
BARBER: "Luis fires, the pitch to Essegian, swung to center, Mantle with room, Romano tags, Mantle makes the catch, Romano walks in and it is a one-run game again at 6-5 on the Essegian fly.(PHIL RIZZUTO: 3rd Indian run via the sac fly today, Red.")
                                                   Top of the 9th
After Fred Funk retired the Yanks in order in the 8th, the Indians started the 9th with a Kirkland strikeout. Held then walked, Power singled Held to 3rd. Bubba Phillips with one out.
BARBER: "The pitch to Phillips is lined up the middle for a base hit, Held scores the tying run, Power stops at 2nd, and we are tied at 6. Oh, Doctor!"
Romano then struck out, next batter is pinch-hitter Mike de la Hoz(2 outs)...
BARBER: "Pitch to de la Hoz, base hit to right, Power to 3rd, heading home, they won't get him, Phillips stops at 2nd and the Indians go ahead in the 9th by a 7 to 6 score."
                                                    Bottom of the 9th
Locke took over for Funk, got Richardson(0-5) to ground to Phillips, then singles by Blanchard and Berra sent Mantle(3-4) to the plate, Torgeson running for Blanchard at 2nd.
BARBER: "2-1 on Mantle, Funk from the stretch, the pitch to Mantle, swung and lined to Temple at 2nd(Rizzuto groans), Temple tags Torgeson, it's a game-ending double play and the Indians scalp the Yankees in a heart-stopper, 7-6."
